We want to help Canadians make where they live more energy efficient. The Canada Greener Homes Initiative will help homeowners save money, create new jobs across Canada for energy advisors and fight climate change.

Canada Green Homes Loan

The Canada Greener Homes Loan helps Canadians make their homes more energy-efficient and comfortable. It offers interest-free financing in addition to the Canada Greener Homes Grant to help you complete some of the more major retrofits recommended by your energy advisor.

Loan details

Maximum: $40,000
Minimum: $5,000
Repayment term: 10 years, interest-free
Loan type: Unsecured personal loan on approved credit

  • Once you have received your pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation and decided which retrofits you would like to do, you can apply for a loan. The loan will help cover the cost of retrofits that are both eligible and recommended by your energy advisor.

 

  • To apply for the loan, you must provide at least one cost estimate for the retrofits.

​

  • You are not eligible for a loan if you have already started or completed the retrofits.

 

  • You will receive the loan only after the completed work has been verified through a post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation.

​

  • The maximum eligible loan amount is calculated based on the retrofits selected in the application and the quotes for this work. The eligible amount is capped based on industry standards and market norms. The maximum eligible loan amount may be less than your quoted cost, in which case you will be responsible for funding any difference.

​

  • A maximum of one loan is available per eligible property and homeowner.

​

  • The loan can only help you finance eligible products and installations that are part of a retrofit that is both recommended by an energy advisor and eligible for the grant.

​

  • To begin work in your home, a portion of the loan can be delivered to you up front. Contractors often require a down payment for these types of projects. The balance of the loan will be delivered upon successful completion of the retrofits and verification through a post-retrofit evaluation.

New Home Program

​Get rebates for building a new high-performance home in support of the BC Energy Step Code, or when installing high-efficiency water heaters. Additional rebates for ENERGY START appliances are also available

Clothes Washer and Dryer Rebates up to $250

Purchase a qualifying ENERGY STAR clothes washer and dryer and get a rebate

Connect to Natural Gas: Space and Water Heating Rebates up to $3700

Convert from oil or propane and, for a limited time, qualify for rebates when you install an eligible natural gas space heating system and water heater.

EV Charging stations for homes up to $350

Purchase and install a charging station for an electric vehicle at home and save on eligible costs.
